V-BEAM LASER

What is Vbeam?

The Vbeam Perfecta (by Candela Syneron) is a classic pulsed dye laser that has been the laser of choice amongst dermatologists for vascular (thread veins) and pigmented lesions ("sun spots") for the past few years. However, more recently, advancements in laser technologies have increased treatment speed, improved comfort and decreased side effects and recovery. You can find out more about our new laser here.

Vascular lasers are an essential tool for facial rejuvenation by correcting red and brown skin discolouration, eliminating virtually all vascular and pigmented lesions. Our VasQ laser (Vbeam replacement) features advanced micro-pulse technology, multiple hand pieces for treating various spot sizes, and a cooling head for increased comfort. The treatment is virtually pain free and there is no downtime as bruising or swelling is minimal.

We also use the VasQ laser (Vbeam) as a standard treatment for patients after facial procedures e.g. , blepharoplasties, facelifts, rhinoplasties and CO2 lasers as it will significantly reduce the amount of bruising and swelling.

ARE THE TREATMENTS PAINFUL?

Most patients report a sensation similar to mild sunburn after the treatment. During the treatment, skin receives additional protection through the cooling head, which delivers a cooling burst before the laser pulse is delivered. The cooling head increases comfort during treatment and minimizes side effects such as redness.

IS PDL TREATMENT SAFE, AND ARE THEY ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Yes, PDL treatments have been used since the 1980s for the treatment of port wine stains in infants and young children. The cooling head goes a long way toward ensuring both the patient’s comfort and the protection of the treated skin. Some patients experience redness immediately after treatment, but it usually goes away in a few hours. Occasionally a laser bruise called purpura may occur; this usually disappears in three to five days.

ARE PDL TREATMENTS PERMANENT?

Permanency depends on several factors, including the condition being treated and the patient’s lifestyle. Sun spots, for example, may return if the patient continues to spend time in the sun without protection. Talk with your practitioner about your goals and expectations for treatment.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE BEFORE AND AFTER MY TREATMENT?

Avoid sun exposure before and throughout treatments; SPF 30 or higher sunblock should be worn daily during this time. Post treatment care varies depending on condition and should be discussed with your practitioner. Trust the VasQ laser (Vbeam replacement) to safely and effectively remove discolorations, including rosacea, sun spots, age spots, freckles, as well as other vascular and pigmentation abnormalities such as poikiloderma, port wine stains, facial veins and leg veins. In addition, the VasQ laser is proven to treat scars, stretch marks, warts and psoriasis. The VasQ and Vbeam use Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) technology to deliver an intense but gentle burst of light into targeted areas of the skin. There it’s absorbed by the blood vessels or melanin pigmented areas, safely treating the condition. Most patients notice results right away, and it’s safe for all skin types.

WHAT IS THE VBEAM TREATMENT LIKE?

Most patients are reclining or lying down, depending on the area being treated. The laser will be calibrated and parameters set based on the specific condition being treated. Patients often report a warming or tingling sensation during the treatment, although anaesthetics are usually not required.
