How Often Should You Get a HydraFacial? Your Complete Treatment Schedule Guide

The HydraFacial has become one of the most requested treatments at our Edgbaston clinic, and it's easy to see why. It cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates the skin in a single session, leaving you with a visible glow and none of the downtime associated with more intensive treatments. But once you've had your first HydraFacial and fallen in love with the results, the question we hear most often is simple: how often should you actually be booking in?

The honest answer is that it depends on your skin, your goals and what else is going on in your life. Below, we've broken down what we recommend to our Birmingham and West Midlands clients, so you can build a schedule that keeps your skin looking its best all year round.

The general rule of thumb

For most people, a HydraFacial every four to six weeks is the sweet spot. This timing lines up neatly with your skin's natural renewal cycle, which typically takes around four weeks. Booking in roughly once a month means you're refreshing your complexion just as the previous cycle is completing, keeping dullness, congestion and dryness from building up in between.

That said, four to six weeks is a starting point rather than a rule set in stone. Some of our clients thrive on monthly treatments, while others find that every six to eight weeks suits their skin and their diary just as well. The right frequency is the one you can stick to consistently, since HydraFacial results are cumulative and work best as part of an ongoing routine rather than a one-off treat.

What affects how often you should come in

A few factors will shape how frequently we'd recommend treatment for you specifically.

Your skin type and concerns. Oilier or more congested skin, particularly if you're prone to breakouts or blackheads, often benefits from slightly more frequent sessions, sometimes every three to four weeks, to keep pores clear. Drier or more sensitive skin may do better with a longer gap between appointments, allowing the skin's natural barrier time to recover.

Your age and skin goals. If you're focused on early signs of ageing, fine lines or an uneven skin tone, a monthly rhythm tends to deliver the most noticeable improvement over time, especially when combined with the right add-on boosters for your concerns.

Upcoming events. Many of our clients like to book a HydraFacial two to three days before a wedding, party or important occasion, since the treatment gives an immediate, camera-ready glow with zero recovery time. If you have a big event on the horizon, we'd suggest a "practice" treatment a few weeks beforehand too, so we know exactly how your skin responds before the big day.

Specific conditions like acne or pigmentation. If you're working through an active skin concern, we sometimes recommend a short, more intensive course, such as sessions every two to three weeks for six to eight weeks, before settling into a monthly maintenance plan once things have improved.

What happens if you go too often, or not often enough

It's a common assumption that more frequent treatments always mean better results, but that isn't quite true with the HydraFacial. Because the treatment includes exfoliation and extraction, coming in too frequently, say, every week or two without a specific medical reason, can occasionally leave the skin feeling sensitised rather than giving it time to fully benefit from the hydration and nutrients delivered during the session.

On the other hand, leaving it too long between appointments, three months or more, means you lose much of the cumulative benefit. You'll still enjoy a lovely result on the day, but the longer-term improvements in texture, tone and congestion tend to plateau rather than build.

This is really why we always recommend a proper consultation before settling on a schedule, rather than following a generic rule. Your skin, lifestyle and budget all play a part in getting the timing right.

Building a HydraFacial routine that works for you

Here's a simple way to think about frequency depending on your priority:

  • Ongoing maintenance and general glow: every four to six weeks
  • Congested, oily or acne-prone skin: every three to four weeks initially, moving to monthly
  • Ageing concerns and skin texture: monthly, paired with targeted boosters
  • Special occasion prep: two to three days before the event, plus a trial session a few weeks earlier
  • Sensitive or dry skin: every six to eight weeks

Many of our Edgbaston and wider Birmingham clients find that combining regular HydraFacials with a good home skincare routine gets them the best of both worlds, extending the glow between visits and making each treatment go further.

Getting a plan that's tailored to you

At Kat & Co, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to skincare. During your consultation, our team will take the time to understand your skin, your concerns and what you're hoping to achieve, then recommend a HydraFacial schedule that's realistic and genuinely suited to you, rather than a generic timeline pulled from a leaflet.

If you're new to HydraFacial or simply want to review how often you're currently booking in, we'd love to welcome you to our clinic in Edgbaston for a consultation. We'll assess your skin in person and help you build a treatment plan that keeps you looking and feeling your best, whatever the occasion.
