Expression lines such as crow’s feet and frown lines on the forehead and between the brows are caused by overactive muscle movements repeatedly creasing the skin. Treatment of these wrinkles often includes anti-wrinkle injections which involves the use of a purified protein produced by a type of bacterium. A minimal amount of the protein is injected into selected muscles, temporarily reducing the contractions that cause the permanent frown lines.

Anti Wrinkle Injection Procedure

Usually, the procedure takes ten to twenty minutes to carry out and the discomfort is minimal as very fine needles are used. Also, no recovery time is involved and the results are noticed within 3 – 4 days.

The skin around the treated area will look smoother and less wrinkled. The upper third of the face is where the best results are obtained; the crow’s feet (around the eyes), the wrinkles and the frown lines between the brows and on the forehead. Due to the results of the treatment, many patients report that they are feeling more relaxed as frowning reduces. However, the results are not permanent; it is normal procedure to repeat the treatment every 3 – 4 months to maintain and build on the results.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections for Bruxism (Teeth Grinding & Jaw Clenching)

Bruxism is the involuntary clenching of the jaw or grinding of the teeth, often during sleep or at times of stress. Many people are unaware they are doing it, but over time it can lead to jaw tension and soreness, headaches, tooth wear and a tired, aching jaw on waking. Persistent clenching can also enlarge the masseter, the powerful muscle at the angle of the jaw, which may give the lower face a wider, more square appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections offer a non-surgical option for managing the muscular component of bruxism. A small amount of the same purified protein used in facial treatments is injected into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw. This reduces the intensity of the muscle's contractions, so the clenching and grinding becomes less forceful. As the muscle relaxes, many patients find the associated jaw tension and soreness ease.

Because the treatment works on the masseter, it can also gradually soften a heavily developed jaw muscle over a course of treatments, which is why it overlaps with our jaw slimming treatment. Whether your priority is comfort, the appearance of the jawline, or both, this can be discussed at your consultation.

Suitability for treatment is always assessed during a consultation with our GMC-registered clinicians, who will review your symptoms and explain whether anti-wrinkle injections are an appropriate option for you.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections for Bruxism (Teeth Grinding & Jaw Clenching)

A gummy smile, known clinically as excessive gingival display, is when a noticeable band of gum shows above the upper teeth when you smile. It is very common and is often simply down to the muscles of the upper lip being particularly strong or active, lifting the lip higher than average and revealing more of the gum.

Anti-wrinkle injections provide a quick, non-surgical way to soften a gummy smile when the cause is muscular. A small, carefully measured amount of the purified protein is injected into the muscles that raise the upper lip. This gently relaxes them so the lip does not lift quite as high when you smile, reducing the amount of gum on display and creating a more balanced, even smile.

Precision matters here, so treatment is conservative by design. The aim is a natural-looking result that keeps your smile expressive while bringing the lip, teeth and gum into better proportion. Results build gradually over the days following treatment.

At your consultation, our aesthetic doctors and nurses will assess your smile to confirm that the gum display is muscular in origin and that anti-wrinkle injections are a suitable approach for you.
