What is the Breast Enlargement Surgery?

Breast enlargement, also called breast augmentation, is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the size and shape of the breasts.

It can also correct asymmetry or restore volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight changes.

During the procedure, a surgeon places an implant either behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle, depending on the patient’s anatomy and desired results.

Modern breast augmentation techniques are safe, effective, and provide long-lasting results.

Breast enlargement is a popular choice for women looking to increase their breast size or improve proportion. Consulting with a qualified cosmetic surgeon is essential to achieve a natural, balanced outcome.

Why Choose Breast Enlargement?

Breast augmentation can help women feel more confident and comfortable in their appearance. Many women are dissatisfied with their natural breast size, with studies suggesting that over 70% would like to enhance their shape or volume.
Key Benefits of Breast Implants
  • Restored Volume: Implants can restore fullness lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight changes.
  • Improved Symmetry: Surgery can correct uneven breasts, creating a more balanced and proportionate appearance.
  • Boosted Confidence & Self-Esteem: Achieving the desired breast size and shape can improve body image and confidence in everyday life.
  • Medical or Congenital Improvements: Implants can address issues from past surgeries or conditions such as tuberous breasts, Poland syndrome, or chest wall deformities.
  • Enhanced Emotional Well-Being: Many women report a positive impact on emotional health and self-perception.
  • Long-Lasting Results: Modern implants are durable, providing lasting enhancement and confidence.

Who is a Suitable Candidate for Breast Enlargement?

Breast augmentation is ideal for women looking to enhance the size, shape, or symmetry of their breasts, or restore volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight changes. It can also help improve confidence and body image.
Ideal Candidates

Breast enlargement surgery is generally suitable for women who:

  • Are at least 18 years old and have fully developed breasts
  • Are in good physical and mental health
  • Have concerns about breast size, asymmetry, or loss of volume
Breast augmentation is not recommended for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have unresolved breast health issues. A consultation with a qualified surgeon is essential to assess your suitability and ensure the procedure meets your goals.

Preparing for Breast Enlargement Surgery

Proper preparation helps ensure a safe procedure, smooth recovery, and the best possible results.

Health and Lifestyle Steps
  • Weight Management: Aim to maintain a stable, healthy weight before surgery for optimal outcomes.
  • Quit Smoking: Stop smoking at least two weeks before and after surgery to support healing.
  • Medication Review: Avoid aspirin and certain anti-inflammatories that increase bleeding risk. Discuss all current medications with your surgeon.
  • Avoid Recreational Drugs: Discontinue any recreational substances well in advance to reduce complications.
Day of Surgery Tips
  • Wear Comfortable Clothing: Choose loose-fitting, front-opening tops and comfortable bottoms to make changing easier and stay comfortable after surgery.

Following these steps, along with your surgeon’s personalised instructions, can help ensure a smoother operation and faster recovery.

What to Expect From Breast Enlargement Surgery?

Breast implant surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, ensuring you are comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure.

Pre-Surgery Preparation:
The surgeon marks the breast area to guide the procedure and ensure precise, symmetrical results.

Surgical Procedure:

  • Incision: A small incision is made, usually under the breast, but it can also be placed around the nipple or in the armpit, depending on your anatomy and goals.
  • Implant Placement: The implant is inserted either behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle to achieve a natural, balanced appearance.
  • Wound Closure: Incisions are carefully closed with sutures and dressed to support healing and minimise scarring.

Breast Implant Options

Every patient's breast implant journey will be unique. Our specialist breast enlargement surgeons will help you to choose the best implant size, shape and placement based on your individual build, requirements and personal desires. Important considerations include:

volume of breast tissue icon
Volume of Tissue

Your doctor will look at how much volume you have to begin with and how much soft tissue coverage you will have with a breast implant.

laxity of breast skin icon
Laxity of Skin

Skin laxity, or the looseness and stretchiness of your skin, determines whether or not you also need a breast lift. Laxity means there is some sagginess to consider.

Nipple Placement

Nipple placement may vary between your two breasts. Breast augmentation can draw attention to the differences in size, placement and direction. Aesthetic preferences vary by patient.

Symmetry

Each of your breasts is a different size. Depending on how different they are, you may need to select differently sized breast implants to improve their symmetry.

What Breast Implants do Kat & Co use?

Kat and Co uses Breast Implants from Motiva, Polytech and Mentor, allowing us to provide a wide range of choices for shape, size and feel.

Motiva Implants

Replicating the Natural Feel: Motiva breast implants are meticulously crafted from medical-grade silicone, ensuring not only a visual resemblance to natural breasts but also a tactile similarity. Their advanced material design allows them to move in harmony with your body, delivering a seamless and natural appearance.

Dual-Layered Protective Shell: Distinguishing itself from typical implants with a single outer shell, Motiva implants feature a dual-layered design. The innermost layer, known as the "Barrier layer," possesses a unique chemical composition, serving as a protective barrier to prevent any leakage from the implant's internal filling.

Q Inside® Safety Technology: A standout feature offered by Motiva is the Q Inside® Safety Technology (Qid®). Implants equipped with this technology incorporate a micro-transponder, essentially a miniature electronic chip. This chip stores essential data about the implant, including its size, type, model, and distinctive serial number. In the event of complications, this information becomes invaluable for plastic surgeons.

Reduced Risk of Complications: Motiva implants stand out for their notable advantage in minimizing the risk of capsular contracture, a condition that can distort breast shape and may require additional surgery for correction.

These 3 breast implant companies offer a lifetime warranty against implant rupture and 10 years against implant capsular contracture which meets the terms and conditions. Find out more about the included Mentor Protection Plan here. Kat and Co offers unlimited follow-up appointments post breast enlargement surgery.
